So, a big part of this website is all about helping you (the blogger, website owner, entrepreneur, etc. etc) succeed online…with tips from a professional Virtual Assistant (VA), aka me, Alexandrea. If you’re anything like me a few years ago, you’re probably saying “what in the WORLD is a Virtual Assistant”?!??!!? Well, here it goes.
The Technical Definition
A Virtual Assistant is, according to Google, “generally self-employed and provides professional administrative, technical, or creative (social) assistance to clients remotely from a home office.”
How I Describe My Job To People
Chance are, if you tell someone you are a Virtual Assistant, they have no clue what you are talking about. This was one of the most difficult things to figure out- what to tell people what my job was. So, to avoid confusion, I tell people that I’m self-employed and that I work from a home office. That usually catches their attention. Then, I tell them that I am a Social Media Manager, a Website Designer, and a Graphic Designer. Sure, I do like a gazillion other things too. But, unless they get really interested and strike up a conversation about it, I usually don’t bring up every little thing I do. Because, if I did, we might be there all day.
So, by this point, you’re probably thinking “okay, that’s cool and all, but why do I really care”? Well, there are two
Looking For a Job? The Possibilities Are Endless
This may be a good reason to care.
If you are looking for a new job and have a good, strong will to work, you may consider a career in Virtual Assistant-ry (not a real word, but bear with me!) Let’s say you’re tired of working for someone else. VA, here you come. New mom, but still want to make some money? VA, here you come. Love technology, but don’t have a degree in computer software, so you really can’t get a job at a firm? VA, here you come.
Caught your attention, yet?
If you’re looking for a Virtual Assistant Job, the best place to start is by reaching out to other bloggers, either via email, social media or references. The latter is the BEST way to get VA work, but we do all have to start somewhere– which means that you have to land that first client.
You can sign up for an account with places like UpWork or Freelancer online. But, my favorite place to find work if you’re just starting out? Facebook groups! You can check out a couple of my favorites here and here.
So, Website Owner? Blogger? Need Help? This Is Why You Need A Virtual Assistant.
A VA is someone that can do all the nitty-gritty work for you, while you focus on what’s important. There have been so many times where I hear of a business owner complaining about having to be on Facebook all the time keeping up with people when they really need to be out marketing elsewhere. And then there are the times where I hear people saying “if only I can have someone else doing this for me”. Well, it’s your lucky day- because that’s what a Virtual Assistant is for!
Take me for example. I am a professional VA. It’s my full-time job. What does that mean? It means I am constantly working, taking care of website issues, designing graphics, managing social media accounts, sending emails, filling out spreadsheets..the list goes on and on. Ultimately, I’m doing a gazillion tasks that a business owner simply doesn’t have the time (or sometimes the want) to do!
And, not only does hiring a VA allows you to focus on the other important aspects of your business, it helps you focus on the other important aspects of your life. By outsourcing your work, you can spend less time plugged in to technology and more time plugged into your family.
So, are you ready to take the leap? Whether you are looking for a new job path, or needing help yourself- a VA is an awesome way to go!
