Tackling a project on your own around the home can be an exciting challenge and a great way to add a little more personality to your space. Don’t have any plans this weekend? Consider trying your hand at a DIY project to spruce up your home and give you something to focus on.
Here are five DIY projects you can try this weekend to bring a little more farmhouse feel into your home!
Create some rustic wooden wall art.
A quick, easy way to add a little touch of the farm to your modern space is to incorporate some old wood into your decor. If you have access to older material, that’s best, but you can always pick up new wood at a home improvement store and weather it down to give it an aged look and feel. Dress up your piece of wood with a little paint by adding:
- A silhouette.
- A favorite quote or saying.
- A pattern, painted with a stencil.
Make your own farmhouse-style coffee table.
Ready to tackle a bigger project? DIY-ing your own coffee table is a great way to bring some of that farmhouse feeling into your home without spending an arm and a leg. Lots of coffee tables in this style embrace a two-tone approach, with a stained wood top and painted white legs, while others go for an all-over wooden look. If you’re handy, you can construct your whole coffee table by hand. If you’re not, look for a cheap or free piece on Craigslist or another buy/sell site to upgrade.
Chalkboard paint something!
Chalkboard paint is a common accent in farmhouse decor. It’s easy to see why – it’s trendy, fun, and functional. You can convert just about anything into a chalkboard with a little paint and patience. I’ve seen people cover old windows in chalkboard paint for a statement piece or coat a smaller surface, like a decorative tray table or picture frame, for an easy surface to write weekly menus and to-do lists upon.
Upgrade your kitchen cabinets.
The kitchen can be the perfect place to invite in a little taste of the farm. An easy technique to DIY your way to a farmhouse-style kitchen involves a little work on your kitchen cabinet. Open and exposed cabinets are the current trend in farmhouse decor. Instead of leaving on cabinet doors to hide clutter and mess, remove them and proudly display your glassware and dishes as part of your home decor. As a bonus, you’ll spend way less time opening and closing cabinet doors as you search for something you need.
Design a farmhouse-style wreath.
Want to warmly welcome your guests to your farmhouse-inspired home? A handmade wreath on the front door can be a fun and easy DIY to easily impress your friends and family and give your home a special touch. Make one from burlap or linen, or opt for more natural (or natural-looking)l materials like sticks and twigs, vines and berries.
